 Presentation: The Green Deal: The Netherlands on the way to sustainable care 

In 2015 the Environment Platform for Healthcare initiated the national Green Deal Heath Care in Holland. This Deal between health sector, national and local government, and many other participants bridges the gap between the legislation approach of the authorities and the stimulation approach for own responsibility for environmental goals. Within three years over 100 health care institutions create there own environmental approach with the certification schema of the “Environment Thermometer Care”. More than 50 local governmental authorities stops enforcement tasks on energy conservation.

Adriaan van Engelen, Director - Milieu Platform Zorgsector (Environment Platform for Healthcare)

Adriaan has graduated from the Twente University of Technology in 1988 with a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. After gaining experience in several (foreign) projects on energy and waste technology, he started as consultant in sustainable business at Stichting Stimular in 1993. This non-profit organisation provides both businesses and governments with advice on all relevant topics of sustainability. Adriaan has a talent for driving and stimulating people towards sustainable innovation. He has led and executed numerous energy and sustainability projects, of which several in the healthcare sector and helped in developing a tool for monitoring environmental impact (www.milieubarometer.nl). In 1997 Adriaan became the director of Stichting Stimular and was asked as director of Milieu Platform Zorgsector in 2003. Nowadays he still runs both positions. Milieu Platform Zorgsector is a rapidly expanding network of healthcare institutions, governmental bodies, branches organisations and other interested parties, who will all put their name down on the 10th of October for Green Deal Sustainable Healthcare 2.0.

Judith de Bree, Consultant - Stimular Foundation and Milieu Platform Zorgsector (Environment Platform for Healthcare)

Judith de Bree graduated from the Wageningen University in 2017 with a Master of Science degree in Biology. She is Consultant at Stimular Foundation and Milieu Platform Zorgsector (Environment Platform for Healthcare). As Consultant, Judith supports dozens of healthcare organisations with the certification traject of the Environmental Thermometer Care.
