CEO Emeritus at Gundersen Health System, Paediatrician, and Author on leadership
Jeff Thompson was CEO of Gundersen Health System for fourteen years responsible for improving quality, lowering cost and rapidly advancing technology. He served a staff of seven thousand, hundreds of thousands of patients, and yearly spent a billion dollars of the community’s money. His long experience as an intensive care pediatrician and senior executive has shown him how leading from one’s values can affect tremendous lasting change. He will also be available throughout the conference to discuss his recent book about values-based leadership within business and healthcare: Lead True: Live Your Values, Build Your People, Inspire Your Community.
During Dr. Thompson’s tenure, Gundersen Health System developed an energy programme that decreased greenhouse gases by 95% and hazardous pharmaceutical waste by 1,700% - therefore decreasing the cost of care and improving the local economy. Gundersen has been recognised across the US by independent healthcare ratings organisations for high-quality patient care, earning the highest honors of Healthgrades America’s 50 Best AwardTM for 2012 through 2016.
In 2015 Dr. Thompson received the Practice Green Health Visionary Leader Award, after Gundersen achieved energy independence becoming the first net-zero energy health system in the United States. The only US healthcare provider to speak in the Blue Zone of the Paris Climate talks, Dr. Thompson also received the White House Champions of Change award in 2013.
