 Presentation: The Marrakesh University Hospital

Speaker: Ahmed Idhammad, Head of Sustainable Development Unit - CHU Marrakech

President of Association for the Sustainable Development in Health (A2DS.org).
Head of Sustainable Development at the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, Marrakech. Head of Technical Facilities Department at the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center, Marrakech. PhD in Modelling and Computational Science, University of Cadi Ayyad, Marrakech. Researcher on Environmental subjects and Energy Efficiency.

The World Bank Group estimates that health care contributes roughly five percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. If the projected growth in health spending is not coupled with a decarbonization strategy, we can expect health care’s carbon footprint to possibly triple between now and 2050.
Hospitals, health centers, and public health workers are first responders to the health effects of climate change and these institutions will inevitably bear high costs resulting from the growing number of extreme weather events.
By jointly implementing resiliency and de-carbonization strategies within the sector, climate-smart health is reducing emissions. It can also help power health systems in resource constrained settings while supporting resiliency and adaptation everywhere.
This approach forms a foundation from which health care can contribute to broader policy, economic and communications initiatives in concert with global climate and health goals.
With the Health Care Climate Challenge, an initiative of Health Care Without Harm, organizations, hospitals and health systems around the globe are joining together to pledge their commitments to address climate change head on and transition to climate-smart health care.
Learn about the Health Care Climate Challenge, the important role of the health sector in addressing climate change and how to join this global movement. Hear directly from participating organizations on how they are reducing their carbon emissions, preparing to stand resilient to the impacts of a changing climate, and taking a leadership role to protect public and environmental health.
