Speaker: Jason Snape, Senior Principal Scientist - AstraZeneca
Jason Snape is the Senior Principal Environmental Scientist within AstraZeneca and coordinates their Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Research and Foresight programmes. Jason is an Environmental Microbiologist, Biochemist and Environmental Risk Assessor who provides scientific leadership on the pharmaceuticals in the environment (PIE) issue for AstraZeneca and the wider Pharmaceutical Industry. Jason’s specific expertise and research is focused on (i) the environmental risk assessment of human medicinal products, (ii) the biodegradation and persistence of chemicals in the environment, (iii) determining the significance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in the environment as a source of resistance for clinical infection and the development of appropriate regulatory frameworks and guidance to improve environmental risk assessment for anti-infectives, and (iv) assessing the risks posed by medicinal products in emerging markets where use and exposure patterns differ due to the absence of adequate waste and drinking water treatment infrastructure. Jason is a member of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industry Associations (Efpia) PIE Task Force, its Governance Team, and Chairs its Environmental Risk Assessment Group. Jason also sits on the International Federation of Pharmaceutical Manufacturers and Associations (IFPMA) AMR Alliance Working Group for the Environment. Jason holds Honorary Professorship at the Universities of Warwick and Newcastle.
